Poker Tournaments - Online Poker Site VIPpoker Combines Online Poker with Brick and Mortar Charity Poker

May 13, 2005

Source: OPN Staff

Online gaming solutions provider VIP Management Services announced that its online poker site, VIPpoker.com, will combine online poker with live poker tournament action, and all to benefit a worthy cause. VIP teamed up with LA's Normandie Casino to provide the land-based segment of the tournament.

As part of the partnership, the Normandie Casino will host the "Big Show Tournament," a charity poker tournament, with proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. ESPN radio celebrities Mason & Ireland, will be in charge of leading the proceedings. Other perks include free beer, food and a host of Playboy models frolicking around the casino. The charity poker tournament also boasts a guaranteed prize pool of $25,000.

Poker players can qualify for the "Big Show Tournament" by competing in VIPpoker.com's satellite tournaments. Players who qualify through the online tournaments can skip out on the land-based event's $230 buy-in.

Regarding VIP's integration of land-based and online poker, Mike Jamerson, the event coordinator for the project, commented, "The fact of the matter is that people play online to hone their skills in privacy, till they have the confidence to actually go play in the testosterone-filled games in the casino. It is a natural progression."

Poker MOBILE - Dead Celebrity Poker

May 11, 2005

by Steve Parsons, Joystiq

There's very little in the way of info on this right now. However, it's an interesting concept.
Cashing in on the current worldwide addiction to Poker, the game offers you to the chance to, surprise surprise, play poker with dead celebrities. One would assume against them, not using them as chips. "I'll see your James Dean, and raise you Jimi Hendrix!"

Gamespot has a whole ONE screenshot for your amusement. Try not to get overexcited.
